Tales of the starving artist

Art is LIFE!

3D Pool Table

“If you want to really hurt your parents, and you don’t have the nerve to be gay, the least you can do is go into the arts. I’m not kidding. The arts are not a way to make a living. They are a very human way of making life more bearable. Practicing an art, no matter how well or badly, is a way to make your soul grow, for heaven’s sake.

Sing in the shower.

Dance to the radio.

Tell stories.

Write a poem to a friend, even a lousy poem.

Do it as well as you possible can. You will get an enormous reward. You will have created something.”

Art in Evolution (Mine)

“My Artistic Journey”

When I first started on my artistic journey, I would use rulers and measuring tape trying to put my art down.  Now, being able to manipulate the materials and the tools, I bring to life what is alive in my head.  I am able to add dimensions and give each piece depth.

After going through life, especially coming out of New York, I feel as though I can do anything [artistically] with very little in terms of materials.  It’s like looking at a blank slate with what’s in my mind and letting the lines flow.  In 30% to 60% of the paintings I’ve done I don’t think about it, it just happens.  My work happens so fast that with the wood and paint I am able to get depth, thereby giving the image a 3-d feel while on a flat surface.

Sitting in between the pieces above, it felt as though they were speaking to me.  Each piece is unique; colors are different, etc. all with limited supplies.  The materials I use is used to patch holes, basically utility board that I manipulate  into art.  I discovered these materials while establishing my art gallery in D.C. and I knew then that I could do something artistic with it.  The wood absorbs the paint while giving me a solid foundation to build my visions upon.  I can sketch on it, I can erase, I can paint and cut on it with little resistance.

This is my “Art in Evolution” journey!

Awakening the Sleeping Giant

“Awakening the Sleeping Giant”

This piece was inspired during a dark transition period of my life. When things could be considered gloomy or trouble, my soul mate and muse set off a spark inside of me.  I felt as though the giant inside of me had finally been awakened.  I have the feeling of freedom and floating in space while still being cradled in her love.  The infinity of space and the comfort of true love is represented here.  A man on fire being released into his destiny.

When ART imitates LIFE!  This piece was inspired by a moment in time with a very special someone who makes me feel as if I am floating amongst the stars.  This special someone has inspired me to do things that were lying dormant in my life while encouraging me along the way!

“Gravity” represents me in the zone with nothing but a moment in time as my reference.  This other-worldly being represents strength, passion, sensuality, and a world where one totally loses themselves in the moment.  Her hair is the sun with the planets floating in the galaxy.

“Angel Eyes”

Inspired by an image, customized based on my vision!  “Angel Eyes” could be any little girl basking in innocence and youth while staring off into the distance.

This piece nearly jumps off the background while drawing you in to the depths of the soul behind the eyes of this sweet Angel.

This piece can be purchased as is or custom created to your specifications!
